The Department
of Aeronautics at Imperial
College London has ordered a MOTUS® flight simulation device from
Fidelity Flight Simulation, Pittsburgh, USA. The College will use the MOTUS simulator
for a wide range of aerospace vehicle design research applications. Flight training
in the MOTUS simulator will be provided in conjunction with Field
International, Fidelity’s U.K. partner.
The aerodynamic
modeling capability of the Laminar Research X-Plane
flight simulation software was a major factor in the College’s decision.
Fidelity provides the X-Plane PlaneMaker aerodynamic modeling software with each
MOTUS simulator, allowing the simulator itself to be used as a “Virtual
Wind Tunnel”. As users make changes in the aerodynamic model, the resulting
change in performance is dynamically reflected in the MOTUS simulator. “Fidelity
uses the PlaneMaker aerodynamic modeling software to inexpensively provide highly
realistic flight models to our customers,” said Mark

Simulation. “We are very pleased a prestigious institute like Imperial College
would recognize MOTUS and the X-Plane simulation software in this manner.” Flight
training in the Imperial College simulator will be provided in conjunction with
Field
International, Fidelity’s partner in the U.K., which will contract
with a local flight school to provide those services. Field International will
work with that flight school to get JAA FNPT II approval as
