| Air Orlando has earned Level 3 Flight Training
Device approval for its MOTUS® flight simulation device at its Orlando Executive
Airport (KORL) facility. The MOTUS simulation device by Fidelity Flight Simulation
includes Garmin 430 and Bendix King KLN 94 GPS units to allow for a wide range
of avionics training, as well as dynamic control loading in pitch and yaw axes
for more realistic flight control inputs. Air Orlando’s
new MOTUS simulation device replicates a wide range of single engine and piston
aircraft. Fidelity also included a special Upset Trainer flight model, which allows
Air Orlando to provide spin training. “It is rare these days to have the
opportunity to do spin training at all,” said Graham Hodgetts, President
of Fidelity Flight Simulation. “The MOTUS Upset Trainer provides the correct
cues for spin entry and requires the pilot to take the correct action to recover.” Approval
at Level 3 was sought because it offered the best cost-benefit for Air Orlando.
“Level 3 approval allows Air Orlando students to log maximum FTD time towards
pilot certifications,” explains Mark Limbach, VP Marketing for Fidelity,
“and also allows Air Orlando to offer Instrument Proficiency Checks in the
simulation device. The next highest level, Level 6, applies only for Part 142
training programs or when necessary to perform Part 135 check rides.”
